Backups, Backups & More Backups!!

My advice to everyone out there is to always have backups, backups & more backups as often as backing up right away if possible.

Recently had backed up my documents folder to a portable hard drive (months of recent work) then all of a sudden I had a HD failure on the main box, okay so I have everything backed up to the portable hard drive ……..I am good SO I THOUGHT!!

Then the freaking portable HD gave out on me not good at all.

Hitachi DeskStar 250 gb SATA drive was in the main box that failed (Home Built System)I purchased new.

Maxtor 300gb portable hard drive that gave out

So I was down to one last portable HD with about 80% of my work and that I went out and bought another portable HD and got backups of my backups once again.

The Western Digital portable 200gb HD I have that has most of my work (had this HD the longest of all)

The recently purchased Maxtor 500gb portable HD (keep fingers crossed)

So in summary out of all this as I have always you should practice is having backups of your backups of course all those family pics, mp3’s & various other files can prove to be very important when you no longer have access to them. As for the pics lose those and see what happens BTW (I will take credit for this idea) anytime you have photos as a alternative backup use an online site such as flickr, ofoto, etc.,) that is an easy free way to store your photos online and allow others to view them. I personally use ofoto and order photos or various other photo collages from them from time to time prices are reasonable but they have given me to date over the past 3 years over 50gb of pic storage all at the cost of …..FREE

Lastly in case, for those of us that don’t read the instructions portable hard drives are not meant to be "portable" so to speak. Funny that the HD that has lastest me the longest the WD has this as part of the disclaimer online that the drive is not meant to be moved around often. I often carry my portable with me everywhere I go bad habit I know but it gives me piece of mind until it goes out.

So yes that was my past few weeks of dealing with data disasters .

Bringing in the ‘08!!

So last night to celebrate bringing in the New Year we had a family gathering. A feast followed by some fireworks is how we left the past year and brought in the new year.

Although the night was filled with much excitement. For starters I was out there cooking the bar-b-q and some of the orange cinders flew up and almost got me in the eye but I pulled one of those Neo moves still got me right below my eye though but all is good. So finally got all that cooking done after about a good 3-4 hours. Cooking out in the cold is not always the best it takes forever .

So after all of that everyone was ready to sit down and eat well I had been "taste testing" all the meat so by the time it was ready to eat I was done. I still ate a small portion of food.

Now it was around 11:30 CST. the kids were itching to get out there and ignite the fireworks. While we were out there we could already hear fireworks going off everywhere and also gunshots. We got all setup out by the front driveway and most were under the carport I was not and then got hit on the shoulder with what appeared to be pellets from a shotgun that came spraying from above (I dislike people that shoot firearms up into the air). It did not hurt however we heard all the other pellets hit the top of the carport I was not really amused any longer about being outdoors with that going on. However the kids wanted the show to go on.

We all started off by giving the kids some sparklers and letting them light up some bottle rockets and roman candles. At first they were holding the bottle rockets in their hands (not smart) until one of them came back and into the crowd under the carport and scattered everyone around trying to get away from this bottle rocket that was about to pop. After that we really did not let the kids handle the fireworks that were of that nature. We had a bunch of fireworks left over as it was getting colder and later and we decided to call it a night. I am leaving out the part where we shot a firearm, NOT IN THE AIR! We took it outback and shot off some rounds into the ground where we had the ant problem we figured that should scare them and keep them away All in all despite all the excitement it was fun and memorable. Looking forward to the next time we get to fire things up, oh wait that will be this coming weekend when we take the Christmas tree down and burn it outside….yaaaaaayyy

I Am Legend

Saw this movie on Saturday and I have to say it was pretty good. Really makes you think about what we are headed towards in science and technology.

I know it is semi-twisted compared to the original story I Am Legend however I enjoyed the character that Will Smith portrayed in this film.

Looking forward to watching this again when it comes out on DVD. My time at the movies was interrupted by some goofballs putting their feet on the back of the headrests of some of the people we were with. This happened twice. One of the main reasons I do not like going to the movies and of course the other people never fail to keep their mouths quite in the movies for some reason. Alright enough about what eerks me . I finally figured out how to solve that problem about the headrest part, sit at the very top. The talking well that is what the popcorn is good for and when your at the top you have pretty much a good view and can aim well when up there ……j/k.
