Last Tuesday I called into the dentists office to schedule my wisdom teeth extractions for next month, only to have the receptionist talk me into coming the next day. I was just preparing myself mentally to have them taken out next month a week or two before Christmas when she pulled the “how about tomorrow” card.
I was at first like no I will wait and she was insisting that I get this done in time for Thanksgiving. So the appointment got set. So I had roughly less than 24hrs. to prepare myself mentally for this ordeal. This was only a few years later than when they should have been pulled out. So I let everyone know that this was going to happen and everyone started sharing their experiences or a story they had heard about this procedure. One story that stuck in my mind was my buddy Rodney from Eleven2 that mentioned his brother had went in and had to be rushed shortly after to the emergency room since he lost alot of blood.
So the next day came and I went into the office for a few hours then left to get the whole thing over with I was as prepared as I could be mentally for it. I have had a root canal done and it was not so bad as others had talked about. I was worried more about this one since it was 4 extractions. Anywho the countdown was on I had the appointment set for 4p.m. Wednesday I had to pre-med an hour before so I went to Walgreens and picked up my prescription when I left from work.
Took the meds and on my way I was got there a few mins before the appointment and they had me fill out paperwork and talked to me about the whole procedure and the costs. Then I waited for about 20 mins. for them to call on me. I was just wanting for the whole thing to be over with. While I waited I played a few rounds of Donkey Kong, yes the dentist office is setup with a few arcade games that are free while you wait to be called on. Then they called me in UH OH!.
They took me back showed me to the area where the process would take place. The dentist assistance spoke to me about the whole process and what would happen and how long it would take. Then the dentist came in and introduced himself
. He told me that I would not feel any pain but lots and lots of pressure. He then proceeded to inject the anesthesia then went over to pull out some other Joe’s teeth. I sat there and prepared myself mentally for the “pressure” that would soon be on me. The time came they had me open up he took a look around, I closed my eyes and started feeling the pressure, no pain he was right but I could definitely feel the pressure. The top wisdoms came out easily it seemed or maybe it was just that I could not feel anything at all. And what was weird was that the top were not even exposed but I know they did not take that long to remove.
So then he got to the bottom teeth one was exposed fully the other was not and one was coming out horizontal pushing against the other tooth. He started with the bottom left and yanked and yanked but nothing I guess it would not even nudge then he had to cut it I presume to get it out. Finally it got pulled out and I heard the assistant say “he is bleeding alot” and having that story on my mind I starting panicking a little about having heard her say that. They put some gauze and then took it out then I know they had to put some stitches in there then they put the gauze back in. He then proceeded to get the other bottom one out. That one was the worst I guess by now his strength had weakened having pulled on the other teeth. He pulled and pulled and I could feel the tooth slowly tearing away from the gums (GROSS!) I know but I could hear it. I knew then that it would soon be out. Then finally he took out the tooth and stitched up the last crater in my mouth then they stuffed gauze in my mouth. The dentist assistant then proceeded to talk to me about the do’s and dont’s during my daze. I had tightened up so much that I got a headache. At this point I was more worried about the pain pills if they had called in the prescription to the pharmacy or not.
I got to the counter and they were getting me set up for the follow up appointment and getting my prescription paperwork. I got all that together and paid my part of the procedure and was on my way. Straight to the pharmacy I went had to wait another 30mins. for the prescription to be filled.
3 days later and I am still feeling the pain and dazed by the codeine that I take every 8 hours. I can feel the pain slowly fading as I am healing up but the swelling still is not going away I am sure that will take a few more days. The medicine keeps me dazed and asleep for the most part. I have a really difficult time eating I cannot open my mouth more than about an inch to an inch and a half.
Let’s see how the next few days pan out, one thing I would say is if your going to get them removed get all four if needed don’t do two at a time.

Hope the pain and swelling go away before Thanksgiving!
I still have my wisdom teeth. Stubbornly refusing to have them removed.
